European Railroad Discussion > Roaming around Norway: Oslo and southeast EditionDate: 08/25/23 13:39 Roaming around Norway: Oslo and southeast Edition Author: NMlurker Sunday June 11, 2023 was my last day in Norway although I did not get out without a certain amount of panic when my train to Stockholm was cancelled with no warning or alternate transportation provided. This put an end to casual railfanning as all my efforts were devoted to getting to Stockholm for my flight home on Monday. But prior to that I did spend a bit of time on the not-that-busy platforms of the Oslo station. And even recovered enough to take a couple of shots from the train on the way to Göteborg, Sweden.
1. This SJ Nord train was destined for Trondheim. My alleged SJ train to Stockholm was nowhere to be seen. 2. This was the third operator of the Class 18 electrics that I saw, SJ Nord. Just slap a different plaque behind the cab and decal on the nose. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/28/23 10:02 by NMlurker. Date: 08/25/23 13:45 Re: Roaming around Norway: Oslo and southeast Edition Author: NMlurker FLYTOGET are the airport express trains that I think TO member 'Sven' may have posted earlier this year. Now it reminds me of a snake.
3. Every once in awhile I take a photo that I really like and this was taken with my phone. 4. The look of these things is growing on me. Date: 08/25/23 13:58 Re: Roaming around Norway: Oslo and southeast Edition Author: NMlurker En route to Göteborg on a Vy service (electric EMUs in green but I can't tell you if they were otherwise marked for a particular 'banen') I had collected myself enough to grab a couple of shots from the train when we stopped in Sarpsborg, Norway.
5. An attractive and very interesting looking Class 16 electric of Cargo Net. Now why is the top of the 'N' white and not yellow? 6. Another Class 226 shunter carrying both Cargo Net and Rail COMBI markings. What I really would have liked to get a photo of is the vintage black electric Class 14 locomotive in the background. Date: 08/26/23 06:56 Re: Roaming around Norway: Oslo and southeast Edition Author: NMlurker I got so excited about finishing my Norway travelogue that I forgot one of my favorite shots from Oslo. This image was taken through a perforated metal 'fence' where the openings were squares about 3/8" in dimension so thanks to the technology of tiny smart phone cameras.
7. What is not to like about a bright red, Danish type-MZ, lettered for Bane NOR? Resting comfortably in its "trainport" with a train of matching red cars of various sorts, it looked to me like maybe an emergency response train, perhaps for tunnels, like the Swiss have for their incredibly long tunnels. Date: 08/28/23 05:15 Re: Roaming around Norway: Oslo and southeast Edition Author: pvarlien BaneNor do have an emergency response train based in Oslo, which is painted red and based at Oslo S.
According to the Railway Gazette (https://www.railwaygazette.com/traction-and-rolling-stock/sbb-sells-fire-rescue-trains-to-norway/57122.article), BaneNor has acquired three second-hand fire response trains from Switzerland. I've only heard of the one in Oslo actually being put into service, after a major renovation.
