I see from Wikipedia that a 2-6-4 (!) is known as an "Adriatic." A first for me. Or is it 2-6-2?

I found a clear broadside photo of #310.23 after a quick search and while it does have (4) trailing wheels both axles appear to be independently mounted within the locomotive frame. Would it then be technically considered a 2-6-2-2?  I'm sure that isn't correct but whatever it is its the closest thing I've seen to in any way justifying those tens of thousands of 3 rail 2-6-4's (226E, 675, 2018, 2025, 2026, 2029, 2036, 2037 etc.) that Lionel produced in the previous century. I know, some will feel any comments referencing toy or model trains don't belong in this forum so as damage control I will request that anyone having knowledge of other prototype 2-6-4 / Adriatic types please give examples of same. Thanks in advance for any replies and to the OP, great images.

Awesome photos, I wonder if my grandfather would have seen these when he lived in Czechoslovakia in the 1930's.

Thank you for the info. If each of the trailing axles is mounted to the frame, 2-6-2-2 sounds reasonable, which we should call a "Byzantine" type.

The 310 was probably the finest design of Karl Golsdorf, the Austrian loco engineer.

Any info available on this event?  Annual?  Inquiring minds want to know.  (OK, one inquiring mind, anyway...)

I'd really like to see this first hand.  That is one seriously odd looking steamer in pic #1.
