End of an era on Cross Country
Author: 86235

1E73 from Plymouth to Leeds this afternoon was the last Cross Country operated HST. After 40+ years service these iconic trains have been withdrawn, ostensibly to save money. With no replacement stock immediately available, it will mean short formations and passengers will endure a degree of overcrowding.

Looking at photos on Facebook there were crowds at stations like Bristol Temple Meads. I didn't bother today as the weather wasn't great and I was happy with my last picture, taken on Friday. In fact the last Anglo-Scottish HST, 1V50 Edinburgh to Plymouth.

We couldn’t stand the things when they knocked off our beloved Peaks from NE/SW services and the Midland in 1982.

Exactly the same sentiments are being expressed today. I've been chuckling at some of the maudlin nonsense being expressed. And exactly the same sentiments will be expressed in 20 years time when the Voyagers are due to meet their maker.
