European Railroad Discussion > LKAB Malabanan Ore Line is Finally Open After 2 MonthsDate: 02/20/24 09:04 LKAB Malabanan Ore Line is Finally Open After 2 Months Author: SvenMolson From LKAB...Shortly after seven o'clock on Tuesday morning, the first train left Kiruna:- The Danish Transport Authority and their contractors have done a fantastic job in the toughest environment that exists in Sweden. In severe cold and hard snowstorm, they have fought with frozen machines and concrete hard tracks. We send a sincere thank you to everyone who has worked along the line so that the trains can now roll again, says LKAB's logistics manager Linda Bjurholt. In total, there are now about 3 million tonnes of pellets in Kiruna and Svappavaara, which corresponds to over 400 fully loaded ore trains. LKAB has lost revenue of about SEK 100 million a day since the derailment. How big the costs will be in the end is still unclear because it may take several years before we are in a race with delivery of the stored products.
