Train time at Abergavenny
Author: 86235

Yesterday lunchtime I caught a meet between Transport for Wales 1W19 Cardiff to Manchester and DBC's 6V75 empty steel from Dee Marsh to Margam Yard. The former was a couple of minutes late and the latter a whopping 40 mins late.

1: 1W19, a recently strengthened five car set with 67008, approaching its Abergavenny stop. The 170 miles from Cardiff to Manchester takes three hours 26 minutes, with 12 intermediate stops. It has a sit down diner which features freshly prepared meals.
2: The doors have been released when a horn blast heralded the approach of 6V75
3: Which swept through at its permitted speed (60 mph)

Nick,  Thanks for being in the right place at the right time and posting these pictures.  As for "...a whopping 40 mins late." be happy you don't live with PSR on CSXT and Amtrak.  Gerry

I did stop to think before I said that, but for 6V75 40 minutes is pretty late.

The dining car is laid out in part of the first class car, standard class passengers are allowed to have a meal if there are spare seats. Or you can upgrade on the train and spend your entire journey in the diner.

Nice posting. Thanks.

As as a North American native, I’m still trying to wrap my head around a freight train being a whopping 40 minutes late. Some day, we might achieve that...

I suppose it's because our railways are passenger focused that freight trains are expected to run to time to save delaying passengers.

Good shots Nik. A train I'd like to take, but still waiting for its reliability to settle down. C. Uk.
