European Railroad Discussion > Looking for any advice on ItalyDate: 06/16/24 19:45 Looking for any advice on Italy Author: erielackawanna I just did the frightening thing - I pushed the purchase button on tickets to Italy for September (for my wife and me). While I can't take her railfanning (or impose on her trip by doing too much myself), I figure I can to a bit in the early mornings, and maybe a touch in the late afternoons.
I'm hoping for any advice on Cincque Terre (not sure which town yet, railfan advice may actually help us decide), Venice (I shot in the big terminal when I was there 40 years ago, but that was pretty boring, any accessible place easy to reach?), Roma (I remember not even being able to shoot in the terminal there, is that true?), and Florence. Charles Freericks Date: 06/17/24 14:37 Re: Looking for any advice on Italy Author: dwatry Last time I was in Rome (2016) I did get hassled for shooting photos in Termini, on the Metro, and on the line to Ostia. I did not get bothered taking tram photos or photos on the interurban line to Centocelle.
Everywhere else in Italy I’ve never been hassled at all. We’ve been in Milan now for a month and I’ve been shooting rail pics all over the city and the region and no one has said anything to me. We’ve also been to Turin, Trieste and Venice on this trip, and no problems taking photos in any of those places. Posted from iPhone Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/17/24 14:44 by dwatry. My wife and daughter loved the town; they asked if I would cancel the rest of the trip (along the French Riviera and to Barcelona, all by train) and just stay in Monterosso for another week. Italian food has no equal. We'd flown into Paris, TGV to Lyon for a couple of days, then to Milan and to Cinque Terre. Day train trips out of Florence to Siena or Pisa. I've taken the trains all over Italy from Trieste to Sorrento and neve rhad any issues.
