European Railroad Discussion > Low speed collision in WalesDate: 10/23/24 15:08 Low speed collision in Wales Author: 86235 A low speed collision occurred between two class 158 DMUs on the single track Cambrian Line in Mid Wales on Monday evening, causing damage to the two units and, sadly, one fatality.
The trains were due to pass each other at Talerddig, the summit of the line, between Caersws and Machynlleth, but the westbound failed to stop. The RAIB (Rail Accident Investigation Branch) is looking at two possible causes, signal failure or poor railhead conditions. If the latter, then this is a carbon copy of the Fisherton Tunnel accident almost three years ago. In that incident, in which no one died, Network Rail's lineside vegetation management and railhead condition monitoring were strongly criticised. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c33v3j76x81o Edited 1 time(s). According to the BBC no cause of death has been determined yet. Still undergoing the post mortem process. |
