European Railroad Discussion > Tilting and Non-Tilting EMUs in the rain Monterosso Italy 9/17/24Date: 11/18/24 11:30 Tilting and Non-Tilting EMUs in the rain Monterosso Italy 9/17/24 Author: erielackawanna Image one - FS Trenitalia Frecciabianca 8623 from Turin to Rome is seen in the rain with train set #22 at Monterosso on September 17. Coincidentally, my wife and I would ride this same train set to Rome the following day (but from Pisa). The t ETR485 Pendolino, built in the early 1990s by a Fiat subsidiary, was designed as a tilting high-speed train to navigate Italy's winding railways efficiently. Today, it is used for Italy's Frecciargento and Frecciabianca services, offering high-speed connections between major cities on conventional rail lines.
Image two - An FS Trenitalia Rock set arrives at the platform in Monterosso with a 5 Terre Express from Levanto to La Spezia. The Hitachi ETR521 Caravaggio EMUs cover, from my observation, over half of the 5 Terre Express runs, with the rest using E464 locomotive pushed or pulled sets of Vivalto cars. I have always found EMUs a bit less interesting to photograph than locomotive powered trains, but I do have to admit that these things are quick and comfortable. Image three - FS Trenitalia Frecciabianca 8620 from Rome to Milan, ETR485 Pendolino #24, emerges from the south tunnel at Monterosso. |
