Italian freight trains through Old Town Monterosso 9/18/24
Author: erielackawanna

While I had used up my allowable "railfan" time in Monterosso, while walking back from a final tour of the old town area before packing up, my wife wanted to rest and was okay with sitting in the square beneath the railroad viaduct. In a matter of about thirty minutes or so, had three freight trains pass by (never got that level of traffic when I was at the station).

Image one - A Railpool E494 TRAXX DC3 leads a short three-car Captrain Italia westbound of tank containers on the viaduct through the old town section of Monterosso, Italy. Wonder if this was some kind of a "local" rather than through train?

Image two - An Oceanogate intermodal train, led by E483 TRAXX DC #001, heads eastbound across the viaduct in Monterosso al Mare's old town, on the Genova-Pisa railway line. These TRAXX DC locomotives, introduced in the early 2000s, are now over two decades old but still in use. The train is likely bound for intermodal hubs near La Spezia or Pisa along the Ligurian coastline.

Image three - A pretty ratty looking Rail Traction Company E483 TRAXX DC (#005) brings a westbound intermodal train through old town Monterosso al Mare, Italy. Possibly heading to the port in Genova, this train could also be headed to Lombardy or Piedmont or even to Ventimiglia, where it would cross the border into France.

Great photos that give the feel of a resort town.

That looks like a great place to chill and train watch.
