European Railroad Discussion > Tram and Transit Tuesday: Budapest, Hungary EditionDate: 01/14/25 13:44 Tram and Transit Tuesday: Budapest, Hungary Edition Author: NMlurker As I said previously, I had little free time in Budapest and was largely unmotivated to photograph the trams despite riding several of them to get to various places. I took a single shot. I was more interested in the route 60 tram line that climbs the hills west of town because it is a cog railway. I felt that a local, commuter line that is a cog railway was sufficiently unusual to warrant riding. At its terminus, it is only about a block from one end of the noted Children's Railway that I had ridden that morning. For only about $7 US one can obtain a day pass that covers the subway, regular trams, presumably buses, and the cog tram line. I used both the subway and a regular tram to get to the cog railway. Particularly in the car I rode uphill on the cog railway, it was not a particularly pleasant ride, lots of vibration. As you might imagine, much smoother on the way back down.
1. My one shot of a tram in Budapest, I believe the 28A line somewhere in the heart of the city. I would say in between vintage and modern for the trams. 2. My two-car tram has arrived at the terminus of Széchenyi-hegy, Gyermekvasút on a lovely late September day in 2024. At mid-afternoon there were less than a handful of passengers. I believe the cars were built in Graz, Austria. 3. An uphill tram arrives at Széchenyi-hegy, Gyermekvasút, again with just a few passengers. The line is mostly single track with passing sidings. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 01/14/25 13:48 Re: Tram and Transit Tuesday: Budapest, Hungary Edition Author: NMlurker 4. Somewhere on the way down the hill we met an uphill tram. The cars were very clean inside and out and thankfully free of any graffiti.
5. My tram after arrival at the lower terminus, Városmajor. The station has two widely-separated tracks. ![]() ![]() Date: 01/15/25 13:43 Re: Tram and Transit Tuesday: Budapest, Hungary Edition Author: 86235 NMlurker Wrote:
