Twenty minutes at a Budapest train station
Author: NMlurker

I took a train from Budapest to Prague and there was about 30 minutes before my train left so I had twenty minutes to run around the station photographing everything of interest. Budapest has three stub-end passenger stations. Trains to the northwest (e.g., Czechia) leave out of the Budapest-Nyugati station.

1. First up was this 193-class Vectron in an unusual, if not unique, Czech Railways (CD) scheme. It says Railway Research Institute (VUZ) and has a track diagram of the facility. Also of interest is that the Czech Railway-owned locomotive is registered in Germany (D).

2. A shot of the other end that says "member of the Czech Railways Group" with a better view of the track diagram.

3. An oldie but goodie that reminds of the British Rail blue era and the only six-axle locomotive that I saw on this trip. This was a V63-class refurbished to the 630-class. H is for Hungary and START is the passenger division of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV = Magyar Államvasutak) but I have been unable to determine what START means or stands for.

4. Another vintage electric that began life as a V43-class, refurbished to the 431-class.

5. A two-unit rail diesel car in local service.

6. A very attractive passenger car in a modern paint scheme. Imagine a locomotive in a matching scheme.

7. This Hungarian passenger 480-class TRAXX locomotive bears a most unique scheme.

8. A view of the other end. Saint Martin of Tours was born in Hungary and was 1700 years old in 2016.

9. A view of the arrivals and departures board showing that the station is fairly busy despite having only four covered tracks with several more tracks to both the left and right out in the open.

10. Modern Stadler FLIRT EMUs.

11. Finally my train with a nice view of the station. The red and white passenger cars are Slovakian and are freely mixed with the blue and white Czech cars.

12. The Czech-built (by Škoda) 380-class is a tri-voltage electric locomotive operated by the Czech Railways (CD).

Nice set of photos!  I always liked the MAV locos like the Class 630 in #3.  Perhaps because, as you note, the blue and yellow scheme reminds me of two of my favorite RRs - British Rail and the B&O!

CD locomotive 193 902 is leased from European Locomotive Leasing (ELL).
Hence its German registration. CD Cargo also has locomotives leased from
ELL. Indeed as CD Cargo has spread its wings across Germany and
especially Austria they have Vectrons and Traxx locomotives leased from the
three largest leasing companies in Europe. This is in addition to the six
Vectron MS that they own as Class 383.
