European Railroad Discussion > A short stop in Avignon, FRDate: 02/05/25 18:50 A short stop in Avignon, FR Author: WrongWayMurphy A really nice town on the Rhône is Avignon. Our Avalon riverboat stopped here for a day.
We walked all about town and somehow "stumbled" upon this train station. The lovely Mrs Murphy just rolled her eyes ... ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 02/05/25 18:55 Re: A short stop in Avignon, FR Author: WrongWayMurphy I don't know much about these Euro trains, being Texan.
I was hoping to catch a orange TGV train - that's how much I know. Trams also traverse the boulevard in front of of the station. Avignon, a neat town with some good food and drink. ![]() ![]() Date: 02/05/25 21:57 Re: A short stop in Avignon, FR Author: SPSFKid The TGVs stop at the high speed line station on the Southwest side of town (Avignon TGV). I don't think there are any more orange trains. Here's a couple shots from way back in 2007...

Your second shot is of one of the long distance regional loco hauled (in one direction) services between Lyon Part Dieu and Marseille on the former PLM mainline. The loco is one of the famous 'nez cassé' classes, in this case one of the BB22200 dual voltage 1.5kV DC/25kV AC variant (Avignon Centre is in 1.5kV DC territory). The EMUs in shots 3 and 4 are examples of Alstom's Régiolis and Bombardier's Z27500 classes, which can be found all over France. Avignon is a fabulous town, we stayed for a five day short break a couple of summers ago. There is so much to see and do. Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 02/07/25 00:18 by 86235. |
