European Railroad Discussion > Slovakia 2022

No one has posted for a few days on the Euro Board so I thought I'd throw up a few random photos from my trip through Slovakia in 2022 that I never got around to posting.  After a week or so in the Czech Republic with 86235, I went to Bratislava in order to ride ZSSK round trip from Bratislava to Kosice.  My plan was to ride one of the every-two-hour expresses via Zilina and Poprad for the eastbound trip, and then to come back via the secondary line throgh Zvolen, with a change of trains there.  It all worked pretty well, except on the return journey there was lots of trackwork and so there were two segments with bus substitutions, and I ended up back in Bratislava about 2 hours later than planned.  The next day I just did some local railfanning around Bratislava.

1)  Lineup in Kosice - the train on the left with a Class 757 "Goggles" was my ride back to Zvolen, which got cut short at Roznava due to trackwork. 
2)  During my layover in Zvolen - here's a train arriving from Bratislava with a ZSSK Cargo Class 240 "Laminatka" on the point.
3)  Train leaving Zvolen for Kosice with a Class 757 leading.

4)  Another Class 240 "Laminatka" arriving Kasarovec with a shuttle train for the trackwork segments.
5)  Next day in Bratislava Vajnory - CD (Czech) Class 380 arriving with a train from Budapest.
6)  Class 362 eastbound at Vajnory.

7)  Class 381 on a regional working with double deck stock at Vajnory.
8)  DPB Tatra T6A5 on Obchodna in the center of Bratislava.

You caught one of the rare Skoda 109E models
on the ZSSK roster. Czeske Drahy has announced
the impending retirement of this model due to
reliability issues. DB Regio is also considering the
same for theirs.
