Ya gotta watch out for those PR guys
Author: Copy19

One day I was going through the photo files for Bailey Yard in North Platte, Neb. when I spotted a picture of my former partner in Salt Lake City--Dick Tincher. Dick was one of the guys who led me to being hired by Union Pacific. At the time he was assistant regional director of public relations in Salt Lake City under C. R. "Rocky" Rockwell. In fact it was Dick who escorted me on my first cab ride when I was the managing editor of the newspaper up in Nampa, Idaho. When Rocky retired, Dick moved up to to his spot and they recommended that the railroad bring me on to take Dick's former post. I joined Dick in Salt Lake City on April 1, 1980.

Actually Dick appeared in several UP ads and photos; including him and his family in Omaha Union Station admiring the annual Christmas tree back in the 50s and posing as a tourist by standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon. In this case he is the man in the upper right inset standing in front of the control board for the new hump. I suspect he was told not to fiddle with the buttons as his picture was being taken. It would have been taken when he was still based in Omaha. He's long since retired and lives in Salt Lake.

This was part of a full page ad that appeared in the January 1969 Trains Magazine.
