Mad Dog Chronicles... progress report on 305.2
Author: mdo

I was reminded again today that I promised to finish my Chronicle on SP steam operations from 1960 to 1996.
quite frankly, I needed to deal with other concerns in May and June.  Now that thats mostly over, I will try to wrap this story up soon.  Note this MDC had the wrong number which I finally noticed when I re read the beginning of the thread.  Chronicle is now
correctly numbered 305.2....

On another matter,  many you may have noticed that many of the MDCs from the past are not complete....some barely get started.
Todd had assured me that TO staff is aware of the problem and working on a fix...soon I hope.

Hurry, hurry!
I can hardly wait to read the loving lament of your regard for steam engines when they were moved over your division..

That old teakettle should have been razor blades log ago.
DJR was right ... After the official last trip, no more steam operations on the S P.

Anything on TO that I'll want to see again, I make a copy of it separate from TO, in case stuff happens.  I thought MDCs would be the last thing to disappear from TO.  I hope there are copies to repost if Todd can't resurrect them.

Please remember that through out this entire era, I was not in a position to set steam operations policy,  influence decisions sometimes. However, frequently charged with implementing policies set by others, and frequently did have some discressio on when what and how.

I do not hate steam engines.  Just keep them off of my railroad.

I really did like the U P's approach to steam operations... That is:  only operate steam engines, owned, maintained and operated by Union Pacific.   Therefore no operation of SP 4449 or SSW 819.

Don't hold it against MDO....steam engines are BAD
Author: jbwest

Many years ago at SP I had a very talented colleague whom I had met while chasing steam.  This guy was a died in the wool fan, like me.  Well as time passed he was promoted and ended up as an operating officer.  And it so happened that the 4449 intruded into his operating responsibilities.  Apparently it was not a good experience.  I seem to remember after that he had little good to say about steam engines, or at least the 4449.
