The day the UP took over the Halllam branch we had the Marysville Trainmaster and the Roadforeman there to ride with the crew from the Rock that had been hired to stay on. The track neded a lot of work so the first two weeks we dumped ballast and brought in a Surface and Lining gang but we were still 10 mph until we got some second hand mainline rial. You could not have asked for a better crew to operate the local and explain the customers and trackage. 

The day before we had a hyrail caravan of the General Manager, General Supt, Supt, Asst Supt and enough managers to fill 5 Hyrailers  up. And of course when the first hyrail with the Gen Manager started on to the interchange track it went in between the rails due to wide gage and that was the start of a bad trip

Is that a ROCK unit or UP unit second out? That is some sorry looking ballast.

All are ex RI GP40'S that the UP repoed. Second unit still painted RI
