Another G motor flies by Ivy City right outside Washington DC in the 70's.  Check out the rainbow of power in the background.

This has been discussed on Trainorders.com before.  Even if someone wants to restore a GG1, which of course could be done with many new electrical componets and transformers without the PC B's, the question is where can it operate?  Only Amtrak on the Northeast Corridor and the Keystone Line from Philadelphia to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  And the way things are these days, Amtrak does not desire to operate excursions.  So it would be very nice to rebuild a GG1, it will cost a ton of money, and then what does one do to operate it?  I have even heard a person state that with all new components that a power car (diesel engine turning a heavy duty generator) could be put behind the engine, but that would kind of look silly too and most likely cost another arm and leg.
