MILW Road Iowa Division Time Book 1959
Author: MILW86A

Hello
I recently acquired some timebooks from retired Milwaukee Road and BN Engineer A.J Neal. Mr Neal hired out on the Milwaukee in Council Bluffs in 1952, promoted to engineer in 1963 and worked for them til the very last day of the Iowa Division. After the Milwaukee he went to work for the BN out Lincoln til he retired in 1985 due to disablity. He is stil alive today at 89.

Anyway Mr Neal did most of time in Council Bluffs but did get out to other locations as shown here in 1959. Enjoy and I hope to share more with you down the road.

The most interesting of rr documents out there that are vastly overlooked, not talked about and does not seem to be of interest of collectors who were non railroaders. That is  a shame. One can learn much about the operations and pattersn of an employee by reading these important documents. I hope that mine covering from 1998 to what I'm hoping to br 2026 can be preserved someday and not wind up in a trash bin

Though just a snapshot of one employee's work, they give a insight into what trains were running at the time and what motive power was used. I've used them in historical reseach and provided summaries in the appendices of my first book that readers love to read.

I remember a former NKP switchman bringing one of his (circa 1954) into work. This would've been in the mid to late '80s.

He didn't have the whiskers (back then) to work a regular job, and there were times when the board didn't turn. I think he worked as a carpenter to supplement his income. He probably wasn't the only guy working on the side.

I bought some timebooks on eBay for a guy that worked the Wabash First District east of Montpelier, Ohio. It had steam and diesel loco numbers but mysteriously (or not so mysteriously) the time period for the transition from steam to diesel was missing. I suppose someone had picked it over before I got it.

Would that be to Detroit or to Toledo?

No. I am referring to the eastern end of the First District btw Montpelier and Toledo. The First District ran btw Peru, Indiana and Toledo, not to be confused with the Fifth District that ran btw Fort Wayne and Toledo. The section btw Montpelier and Detroit was the Third District.
