Railroaders' Nostalgia > California Living May 18,1975 SP 3200Date: 10/11/24 16:56 California Living May 18,1975 SP 3200 Author: dmaffei Today's interesting find at the archives is this old Sunday paper California Living cover photo with an engineer looking over the commuters leaving his train in San Francisco. Thought someone would recognize the person.

He was a great train handler apparently. Sorry if the spelling is incorrect for his name, but the photo struck me as well. Looks like the conductor in photo at lower left looking up at Forrest. Almost 50 years ago. Glad I was there to witness this era on the SP.

I think those horns came off one of the Train Masters. I tried to get the guys at the SJRH to transfer as many of them as I could to the 3200's when the FM's were retired.

As I remember Forest was on the Oakland to San Luis Obispo run in those years. I'm not sure who that is although as ExStarlightHog suggested Chris Payne is a possibility.
Forrest Titus was indeed a great guy. I fired the Starlight betwen Oakland and SLO for Forrest for quite a while and always enjoyed working with him. Right along with Neil Vodden, I considered him one of the very best engineers and nicest people on our roster. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/15/24 21:29 by johnw. |
