Eastern Railroad Discussion > New long pools on CSXDate: 06/23/25 09:41 New long pools on CSX Author: twropr Am told that CSX recently established a pool of conductors and engineers that run between North Jersey intermodal terminals and DeWitt (Syracuse, NY) - about 285 miles.
There is another new pool between DeWitt and Collinwood, OH - about 300 miles. I believe these apply only to selected intermodal trains. If the trains involved do not work art Selkirk, the new arrangement makes Selkirk more fluid because intermodal trains tend to congregate there during late 2nd trick and throughout 3rd trick. Reminds me of when Conrail established Buffalo-Toledo, Toledo-Chicago and Cleveland-Elkhart pools to make Cleveland, Toledo and Elkhart more fluid. When PSR was implimented by EHH circa 2017, many trains between Selkirk and Buffalo began changing crews at DeWitt. I believe most manifest freights now have long pool Selkirk-Buffalo crews again. I wonder if the long pools get scheduling priority? Date: 06/23/25 12:26 Re: New long pools on CSX Author: Typhoon ts1457 Wrote:

Date: 06/23/25 13:01 Re: New long pools on CSX Author: Lackawanna484 25 years ago it took 12 hours to get some trains from North Bergen NJ to Selkirk. It wasn't unusual for a lower priority train crew to die on the law at Catskill Alsen area.
Amazing what mostly double track will do now. Posted from Android Date: 06/23/25 14:11 Re: New long pools on CSX Author: pbouzide So three crew districts for the hottest IM trains Chicago-Collinwood=DeWitt-NJ? Assume similar for Chicago-Worcester. Should help cost competitiveness on these lanes with their shorter-than-western length of haul.
Wondering if this can be achieved with a single crew on the Chicago end Collinwood with the existing congestion between roughly Pine Junction and (presumably) Bedford Park (though I wouldn't expect much different to 59th Street). I assume these trains wouldn't work North Baltimore either or face much delay Deshler-NB-Fostoria. Also curious about the pros and cons for the train crews. I assume these "more tightly scheduled" trains and priority running are a pro, but I also assume the long pools hold some cons. Like you mentioned getting out of Chicago. Is what could make or break you. Normally Danville, IL would have been the crew change point. I128 & I129 did the Chicago thing but later went back to changing crews at Danville, IL. The pay is very good.
Date: 06/24/25 05:32 Re: New long pools on CSX Author: MILW86A I thought at one time back in the 90s(pre Conrail) there was a Chicago to Willard pool for hot trains(like the R136 R137 et al) that didnt change at Garrett, IN?
Does that pool even exist anymore? MILW86A Date: 06/24/25 09:07 Re: New long pools on CSX Author: farmer MILW86A Wrote:
