Eastern Railroad Discussion > W&LE Gambranus & Heartland Yards?Date: 04/22/04 17:39 W&LE Gambranus & Heartland Yards? Author: Anonymous User I've been trying to get photos of the W&LE at different locations around their system and I have heard references to both Heartland and Gambranus yards. Can someone tell me where these two yards are located and any pointers for directions?
Thanks, Joe Date: 04/22/04 18:29 Re: W&LE Gambrinus & Hartland Yards Author: toledopatch Hartland Yard is in Hartland, OH, and it isn't much. It's on the old Wheeling main between Wellington and Norwalk, and I believe its primary functions are for holding/re-making stone trains and for the Toledo freights (223/224) to connect with the Brewster-Bellevue freights (221/222).
Gambrinus Yard is southwest of Canton, OH, and to be honest I don't know much of what goes on there, except that I think it's pretty much an industrial support yard. I've only been there once, 8-1/2 years ago. It's not too far from the Timken Roller Bearings plant. Also of course Spencer, OH is a nice peaceful town to see the W&LE. For lunch go down the street and eat at the Hungry Bear. Date: 04/22/04 19:25 Re: W&LE Gambrinus & Hartland Yards Author: CJ Try the yard in Carey, too.
-CJ/B Date: 04/24/04 13:43 Re: W&LE Gambrinus & Hartland Yards Author: CSXQ167 Spencer is a good idea. Britian Road Yard in Akron has a fence up along with Brewster and Gamb.. You can take photos from these places but you will not be able to get into the yards. You might have to go out on the main on either side of the yards. Hartland is a great place to chase trains and see a loco or two sitting around. Hartland is only a mile from Norwalk Race Way Park. It is right underneath the big water tower. There is many detectors throughout the Hartland Sub therefore it makes it easy to railfan and know where the train is. They also use Canac on some trains where the have a loco at each end of the train and it makes it great for any time of day shots. I am not sure of the routes but road runs right next to the tracks and can easily follow a train from Bellevue to Wellington. Medina is a good place also to catch a engine sitting around. Hope this helps.
