Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSX and Chessie System's First Timetables?Date: 06/18/04 22:43 CSX and Chessie System's First Timetables? Author: Ster2Block Being a Timetable collector, I wonder these things...looking at my collection.
When was the first date of CSX timetables to be produced? When was the first date of Chessie System timetables to be produced? My main focal area is Akron-Chicago Division of the B&O/Chessie/CSX. Thanks! Tony Date: 06/19/04 02:54 Re: CSX and Chessie System's First Timetables? Author: CNWJAG I'm not 100% on this but I beleive that the first round of CSX timetables were issued in 1987.

I have B&O Akron-Chicago ETT #2 dated 10/25/70, and Chessie Akron-Chicago Div. ETT #3 dated 1/1/74. There could've been an earlier Chessie timetable, but I think 1974 answers the "Chessie" part of your question. CSX Chicago Division ETT #1 is dated 3/1/87, and that's the first CSX timecard for the old B&O main (the last Chessie ETT in my collection is from '82, but I don't know if there was another before '87). Deshler/Fostoria/Attica, etc. bound July 23-25! Interlocker Date: 06/19/04 12:55 Re: CSX and Chessie System's First Timetables? Author: csxt4617 Interlocker Wrote:

I think those are the first ones. They were a light gray, and still had alot more divisions. By October, ETT #2, they had consolidated the divisions to the ones that lasted for a long time (Atlanta, Chicago, Corbin, Detroit, Florence, Huntington, Jacksonville, Mobile and Tampa). They were also changed to a light blue. ETT #1, had some others, like Cincinatti, Evansville, and I'm sure a bunch of others (those are the only ones I have). Also, they did one system timetable on 4-1-89, that covered all the divisions, with the info more condensed, but is handy to carry around. The system one is a dark gray. Date: 06/19/04 15:28 Re: CSX and Chessie System's First Timetables? Author: KevinD I have a "CSX System Timetable #1" dated April 1, 1989. It includes the Atlanta Div., Baltimore Div., Chicago Div., Corbin Div., Detroit Div., Florence Div., Huntington Div., Mobile Div. and Tampa Div.
It has about 180 pages and the cover has a light gray color. Date: 06/19/04 17:09 Re: CSX and Chessie System's First Timetables? Author: Interlocker Kevin:
Yeah, that system timetable was a 1-time experiment. The actual timetable had limited information and had to be used with divisional circulars. That concept lasted about a year, if I recall, giving way to the wide-format ETTs still in use. Date: 06/19/04 20:22 Re: CSX and Chessie System's First Timetables? Author: csxt4617 KevinD Wrote:

I forgot they hadn't split Jacksonville from Tampa, and forgot about Baltimore. I knew there were 9 divisions, and I thought I had them all right in my original post ;^) Date: 06/20/04 05:35 Re: CSX and Chessie System's First Timetables? Author: crewcaller The first Chessie timetable for the Akron Division was #3 01/01/74. The number continued the previous B&O series. Then you have a #1 03/19/78, #2 7/01/80 and the last Chessie was #3 04/01/82. There are two styles to this timetable, I have the original dark green cover and then there was a xerox creatd timetable that had a light green cover. The did a couple of covers on the Western Division like the Akron. They probably had run out of the orignal timetales and then created a xerox with a paper cover in order to give new employees something to work with. Since there was not a CSX timetable until 1987.
