Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSX ex-Conrail SD45-2sDate: 06/19/05 17:36 CSX ex-Conrail SD45-2s Author: OCtrainguy With respect to the CSX units, I know a few are now retired. As I try to find if I have photos of all the CSX, former Conrail ex-EL units, I need some assistance with the numbers.
The I have photos of 8886, 8974, 8973 and 8976. I am pretty sure I am missing a few units. Does anyone know what the CSX numbers were for all of the former Conrail units that were given to CSX? I always love seeing these former E-L units. And northern New Jersey and Pavonia always seem like good places to see one of them working a local. I have just recently completed getting a photo of all six NS units, numbers 1700 through 1705. Date: 06/19/05 18:27 Re: CSX ex-Conrail SD45-2s Author: NSDash9 CSX received five of the SD45-2 units from the Conrail split. They were renumbered as follows:
CSX 8886 = former Conrail 6661/EL 3676 CSX 8889 = former Conrail 6663/EL 3678 CSX 8973 = former Conrail 6657/EL 3672 CSX 8974 = former Conrail 6658/EL 3673 CSX 8976 = former Conrail 6665/EL 3680 Conrail 6661 (CSX 8886) had been rebuilt prior to the split by Conrail with a 16-cylinder engine and it was rated at 3000 horsepower. That is why CSX numbered it with the SD40-2's that it received from Conrail. Conrail 6663 (CSX 8889) was being rebuilt by Conrail with a 16-cylinder engine at the time of the split. The work on the unit was finished by CSX at its Huntington shops.
