Monroe County, MI changes -- NS & CN
Author: toledopatch

On Norfolk Southern's ex-Conrail "Detroit Line," new signals have been installed, but not yet activated, between CP-ALEXIS and CP-LA SALLE. The new signals are bi-directional, so apparently this stretch of track will soon become Rule 261 instead of Rule 251 (current of traffic). Most of the old signals to be replaced are rather conventional Type G's, but there are a few NYC searchlights that may bite the dust, too, especially at CP-LA SALLE.

A decidedly negative development is that new high-tension poles have been dropped along the west side of the tracks between Erie Road and at least Suder Road, if not all the way to the state line.

Meanwhile, on the CN, trains 246/247 are once again running on the Shore Line Sub to Lang Yard instead of via the Flat Rock Sub and Ann Arbor to get to Toledo. The Shore Line crew turns at Lang; I'm not sure if a Lang-based crew is running a 246/247 to CSX-Walbridge, or if the CSX cars on 246/247 are being combined with 382/383 to build a monster train for Stanley Yard. The main reason for this posting is that the changeover clearly means more daytime freight on the old Detroit & Toledo Shore Line, and less on the ex-DT&I and AA.
