Date: 01/04/07 15:30 Re: Green Goats Author: potb101 From what I have seen on another board, they are RP20BD Road Goats, numbers Y2611, Y2613, Y2614 and Y2616, all fresh from conversion at Super Steel. All four are headed for Texas, as UP's present order for RP20BD's is funded by a clean air grant from down there.
Thanks for the heads up. Jody Moore http://www.trainweb.org/greengoats Date: 01/04/07 18:28 Re: Green Goats Author: Jaap The supersteel units are NOT green goats they are multi engine road switcher and have nothing in common with Green Goats.

Technically not 100% correct. In fact, the two types of Railpower switchers are more like 75% "similar". The Railpower hybrids and the Railpwoer gensets have essentially the same power conversion cabinet, using IGBTs (insulated-gate bipolar transistors, whioch are large industrial-strength transistors) to control the power going to the traction motors. Yes, there are differences between the hybrids and genset switchers ... but the biggest difference is that the power going INTO the IGBTs comes from either the storage batteries (on the hybrids) or from a common power buss (from the 3 gensets). |
