High Nose GP38-2's for NPBL
Author: edhorm

Today 3 GP38-2's left Enola freshly re-lettered for NPBL. (there are 5009, 5010 and 5011) I assume these will replace the GP15's they have had there. Speaking of GP15-1's, there were plenty of them at Enola, must be getting rounded up now. Sorry for the poor quality of the picture, the area was in the shade.

I assume this is a light engine move all the way to Norfolk? Anyone know the symbol?

When they crossed Rockville, they were running light. I would assume they were going to cross the ex-Reading Bridge at Harrisburg and go down to Hagerstown, then on to Roanoke.

They are replacing the 15's already? Those have only been on the NPBL for about 3 years...

NS is retiring all but a few of the GP15-1s. Thanks for the info on the GP38-2s, very interesting. Some had speculated the NPBL GP15s may be "among the few", but apparently not!

I've been told by a friend on the ECBU that the Gp15-1's leases are ending soon and they will be going back. The ECBU's SD9's are back in yard service across the system and that they will be getting GP38AC's 'long term'. (Could be rebuilt 38-2's)

Are these full repaints, or have the NS logos been painted out and NPBL stick-on letters applied only? Can't tell from the photo, but the units look a bit clean.

NS markings were painted out, they are not full re-paints. Any word on the southward progress of the units?
