Don't you have to be a subscriber? Date: 01/04/07 15:08 Re: Ohio Central buys Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #763 from Author: ts1474 I forgot that the newswire is only open to subscribers.Maybe someone else here can post more info or the article if they think it is okay with Trains Mag.No details have been released but it is confirmed that Ohio Central System has made a cash deal with the Virginia Museum of Transportation to purchase the 763 and rebuild it to operation.

Be nice to know when this unit will be moved. Thanks. Date: 01/04/07 15:50 Re: Ohio Central buys Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #763 from Author: Mgoldman Wow! That's awesome!
That sure is alot of steam engines in the collection. Move over Portland. Should be some double headers in our future! (Can we convince the OC to restore a PRR engine or NYC engine next?, home rails and classy unique power) Date: 01/04/07 15:59 Re: Ohio Central buys Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #763 from Author: ts1474 Article says 763 will be moved sometime this spring.
Date: 01/04/07 16:51 Re: Ohio Central buys Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #763 from Author: NYCSTL8 To say the least, this will be an interesting drama as it unfolds. Since sister 765 has just been rebuilt, one wonders why OC would consider bringing back 763 rather than some other worthy candidate. The men of the NKP referred to 763 as the "best in the West," ( meaning west of Bellevue ) so I am very happy to hear this news. The more NKP anything, the better.
Date: 01/04/07 17:06 Re: Ohio Central buys Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #763 from Author: ZachMarlow This made me pretty happy when I found out about this. I too was thinking of the doubleheaders that could be in the future on the Ohio Central, hopefully 765 will run with this engine, and they would be on home rails so to speak(the line thru Sugarcreek),even though that was originally a Wheeling & Lake Erie line.

And in addition to all of this, 587 is getting its 15 year inspection and overhaul (according to the Feb 2007 issue of Trains)...and ...what I'm really waiting for... a NKP PA is being restored to return to the rails in???? :) I seem to recall reading about NKP passenger equipment being restored, too. Is this a good time to be a Nickel Plate fan or what!!! Dave Date: 01/04/07 17:12 Re: Ohio Central buys Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #763 from Author: ZachMarlow Not to mention GP30 CNRY 85, that is being repainted into her original Nickel Plate Colors and being re-numbered to her NKP number 901, I have been told that the NKP light package will be re-installed as well, including the Mars light
heres a photo of CNRY 85 in Springfield,OH in 2004 Date: 01/04/07 17:22 Re: Ohio Central buys Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #763 from Author: radioman2 At least it won't rust away at VMT. I know this is home to the NW but I wish the NS would have sent the 1218 to Spencer,NC so it would have been displayed inside. The train shed at VMT was a good start, but the 611,1218 and associated cars will look like the 763 and Southern SD7 as time goes on. I wish the VMT could get the proper funding because they have some great pieces.
Radioman2 out Date: 01/04/07 17:28 Re: Ohio Central buys Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #763 from Author: RNinRVR I am a little confused. Hasn't OC shut down their steam program? Are they now going to reopen it? The double header I see is 763 with their 4-8-4.

I don't think there will be much drama, though it will be interesting to hear the details of the selection - I would *guess* that the Museum in VA was eager to get an infusion of cash to allow them funding for their projects and maintanence. I had recently visited the museum and the grounds and equipment could certainly use some sprucing up. Double heading with the 765 should be a sure thing. As much as I'd like to see another unique engine up and about, a double headed NKP will more then make up for that - witnessing the double headed QJj's was a heck of an experience. I believe Jerry Jacobson stated that the steam ops at the OC were not dead, rather it was the passenger charters that became so difficult to insure. Pace and chase charters could become the way out. Steam's future looks bright in '07 and beyond. Date: 01/04/07 19:39 Re: Ohio Central buys Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #763 from Author: SCL1517 I wish Mr. Jacobson would also rescue some of the diesels from that junkyard...oops, MUSEUM. E unit, SDP45...
Somehow, that SDP45 would be more at home in Ohio! Date: 01/05/07 10:39 Re: Ohio Central buys Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #763 from Author: JoeyGooganelli he has tons of vintage diesels working daily on his railroad. I overheard him say that he wanted to see all of them run. I think that is why he worked so hard to get 33 ready. God speed is all I can say for the berk.
