Horrible Night on the LIRR
Author: DE30AC

I was listening to a scanner yesterday, and a call came on for the Mineola Fire Department to respond to the scene of an accident , "Train versus car".

It made the paper today:

Seconds before her silver Buick LaCrosse was demolished by an oncoming train at a Mineola crossing, a disabled woman was pulled to safety Thursday by a volunteer fire chief and his wife, an off-duty police officer.

Shortly before 5:40 p.m., a 63-year-old Floral Park woman was driving south on Roslyn Road at an intersection where the roadway crosses the Long Island Rail Road tracks. She turned right onto the tracks, apparently thinking it was a street, according to MTA police.

That's when her car got stuck....

A few hours later, (after going to Mineola, poking my nose around, and coming back), another call for the Floral Park F.D. (Pedestrian struck by train):

The woman who drove the Buick onto the track was rescued, because the car behind her had off-duty Police in it.

The teenage pedestrian was the one who died in Floral Park at 10:45 PM.
