From the article:

""The professional standards office is involved. They'll determine if any disciplinary action needs to be taken. They'll determine what that action is. Once they notify the employee, it takes ten days before it becomes public," explained Nancy Wait, Volusia County Schools."

This hits close to home as I am a hog head and my mother is a school bus driver. The least this driver should get is fired, best case, this is gross negligence and should prosecute the driver to the extent possible. I don't know about this district, but the district my mother drives for has video cameras on every bus, so this would be easy to verify. Not to mention the cars in question behind the bus.

What would happen if she stopped and stalled on the crossing and couldnt get off in time. I cant believe that people do stuff like that and I wouldnt want that done in front of my train while running, its just as scary for the crew in the locomotive.

Not to mention the trauma to the kids. Wow. What an idiotic driver.

One thing I wonder about that incident is why she backed off the crossing, forcing people behind the bus to back up, rather than pulling forward.

i was told many years ago that it was illegal to push the clutch in while traversing a grade crossing. the "rule" was stop before the crossing, look and listen, put it in a low gear and cross without depressing the clutch until your entire truck was over. i follow that practice to this day while driving our 1929 reo speedwagon calliope. i look at those crossing lights and say to myself "please dont start flashing" as i start to cross.

dave, out.
