I've been interested in what Jesup was like back in the steam era when Southern Railway had trackage rights over the ACL from Hardeeville SC to Jacksonville FL. The Southern's line to Brunswick crossed the ACL at Jesup and the Southern's Kansas City - Florida Special was routed over the combination of those lines. The Southern's FM motorcar train, The Cracker, made a daytime run between Atlanta and Brunswick, but made a night time turn back to Jesup to provide a Brunswick connection to the KCFS. I was wondering if you know of anyone still around from that era that remembers the operations or whether anyone has researched it? I'm curious what sort of facilities Jesup had back during the steam days. I always thought it might be a good subject matter for a smaller model railroad layout. Its all fenced off supposedly and once it is restored, it will house the Chamber of Commerce. This is good news as a fire they had in it looked like it may have killed the deal.
