Southbound Parade on the Toledo Subdivision
Author: CGTower

Warning, if your blood pressure rises over the sight of CSX wide cabs, 3/4 wedge shots and harsh mid summer sun in the photos, then move on to another thread.

But, if you do not mind the fact that trains are trains and the weather was pretty nice this afternoon, and you like the occasional color position light signal in the photo, look on.

Photo 1: Q231 with a very healthy cut of containers on the head end, heads south on the Toledo Subdivision, the defect detector got him at around 9000' of train.

Photo 2: Q375 at the south end of the Ottawa, Ohio siding...again, another 9000' of train (or pretty darn close).

Photo 3: Q507 comes through down town Ottawa, Ohio...he was a bit smaller, only 8100' or so of train.

Photo 4: Q501, small at only 4100' or so, roll south at the intermediate CPL signals at MP 153.5.

Nice shots. Somtimes you don't get the perfect light, but that is life.

I'm a railfan, not a sun fan. I take train pictures, and if the light is perfect, so be it. If it isn't, well that's just okay too.

Doesn't Q500/Q501 carry a lot of automotive traffic? Thus, the reason for these trains being rather short?

No...rarely does Q500/501 carry auto traffic. It is a maid-of-all-work freight train between Chicago and Cincy. Entirely mixed freight of various capacity.

Q231/242/241/200 are the auto rack/parts trains.

My point on Q501 being small was in comparison to the 8000/9000 foot monsters that ran ahead of him. The Toledo Sub is not known for monster trains as our sidings average around 7000' or so.
