Eastern Railroad Discussion > State line tunnel (NY-Mass)

I'll be in that area tomorrow, is the tunnel easily accessible? If so how do I get there? What time of day provides the best photo ops?

I think its Tunnel road off route 22 in Cannan, N.Y.
Goes over the top and than down along side.
You may have to fight your way in with all that
woodsey stuff.

Chatham is a nice town to visit and photo.
The old station is now a bank

There used to be an access road to the west side of the tunnel at the western foot of tunnel road. I parked off the two lane and walked in. I'm sure CSX has gated that driveway now.

If you're in the area, don't forget to check out the Batten Kill railroad

It's a mile or two west of the actual state line, and west of NY 22. If you're headed north on 22 from I-90, turn left after you go over the tracks.

That little band of green in the extreme lower left corner of your snapshot is the Berkshire link of the NY State Thruway / I-90.

If you continued east (to the right in the picture) on Tunnel Road another quarter mile, that would be the hamlet of Flatbrookville where tunnel road meets NY 22. A right on 22 (southward) would take you to the interchange with the Thruway in less than a half mile.

A gentle reminder CSX had a train/pedestrian fatal mishap at the main street crossing in Chatham,NY right by the station in the past week. Expect that the local authorities may be a little more vigilant for a while...
