While photographing NS Allentown, Pa based local HA-13 today a closer look at what at first appeared to be just a pair of standard cab EMD GP type road switchers revealed something different. Look closely at NS GP59 #4606. Those rounded cab and hood edges as well as the slightly angled front windshield identify the locomotives as former EMD GP59 Demo #8. Only the three pre-production GP59's had these features. Worth a closer look.

It's definitely due for a trip to the paint shop, very interesting catch though!

I think I saw one of those units in Chicago at the point of a bottle train on the old Pennsy main in 2008. Very interesting cab design.
