Eastern Railroad Discussion > AVR to the SWP via the W&LE - #2Date: 09/04/10 09:43 AVR to the SWP via the W&LE - #2 Author: Salida What a difference 2 days can bring.
Hurricane Earl is long gone from threatening the east coast. Southwestern Pennsylvania has gone from baking in 90 degree heat to the aftermath of a cold front that has lowered temperatures 30 degrees. The blistering sunshine has been lost to cool wind and clouds. Here again in my little corner of the world, just 2 days since my last encounter with the AVR and W&LE at Bruceton, a W&LE crew arrives at the interchange with the Allegheny Valley Railroad at Bruceton with a handful of loads for the AVR. On Bruceton Siding is AVR 2005 looking as she just came off the showroom floor, glistening in spotty sunshine, paint looking brand new albeit a lite coat of dust...rock plow, trucks, fuel tank, reservoirs all glistening as W&LE 3049 pulls down the main, grabs the 2005 then doubles the loads over against the empties brought up by the AVR. After the moves are complete, AVR 2005 is sandwiched in the W&LE consist then deadheaded over to AVR sister, the SWP. If it wasn't for the onset of all the clouds, the locomotive consist would of looked great crossing the former P&WV bridges at Mingo Creek, Sudan, Speers River Bridge and Banning with a Wheeling & Lake Erie leader...the AVR 2005...and a Rio Grande GP-40 now employed on the Wheeling.
