On Saturday afternoon March 12, 2011 I spent only about three hours at one of the Washington, D.C. area hotspots for CSX action. It's the Hyattsville, Maryland CSX wye. I was able to catch 7 trains in about a three hour time span. That's not bad for the D.C. area. Anyway here are the trains. I included plenty of roster shots for you freight car fans and modelers out there...

First three pics are of intermodal L171-12 led by CSX 5443, 7915, and 7726 going down the east leg of the wye at 1:30 pm.

Next three are of X983-05 led by CSX 5000 going down the east leg of the wye at 1:48 pm. 30 axles for count. Short!

Next three are of eastbound mixed freight Q410-10 led by CSX 5234, 30, and 603 passing by Bladensburg Park on the old B&O Alexandria extension track at 3:40 pm.

Next three are of mixed freight Q400-11 led by CSX 8784, 616, 7904, 652, 638, 697, 632, and 625 passing by Bladensburg Park at 3:55 pm. 562 axles for count. Note the stacks wrapped on a number of the AC6000's.

Is this a sign of things to come?

those M88s were interchanged to CSXT off of York Rail on 2/28/11. No wonder customers complain about slow shipments.

I've been noticing that a lot of new freight cars and repaints are starting to put the reporting marks up high on the sides, presumably out of reach of a lot of tagging.

Nice to see some freight cars not full of graffiti
