What's the typical power NS currently uses on
the South Fork Secondary?

These beauties. The 17 SD80MACs, or rather the 16 that are in service right now (7206 is out after suffering a large mechanical failure).

Great picture - 15,000 horsepressure! Where is this, West Virginia?

South Fork, Pennsylvania. About 10 miles east of Johnstown.

What happened to that hill behind the train? I don't remember it being scorched like that.

Looks like a tailings pile from a strip mine to me.

Coal Mining. I was there last week and it was incredible how the tractors were going up and dowm the hills which had to be almost a 30 degree angle.
They never went sideways, just would back down, drop the blade, then push stuff up the hill.

To sweeten the motive power deal, the new SD70ACes and some ES44ACs have been seen pulling out of South Fork with 578, 650 and 688 coal trains.

What's the "large mechanical failure" the unit suffered?

NO! They are getting rid of the slag pile in South Fork. This is a big disappointment, dang you progress. But as long as they don't build a subdivision or some crap mall on the hill, I guess it had to be.

Well, they could make the subdivision a railfan community "overlooking active railroading" from your backyard!

any idea of what they're doing with the slag? That has to be a task to get a permit to drop it someplace (anyplace).

I've heard it involved a piston and the block, and more specifically, the piston no longer being in the block. That could very well be wrong, but that's what I was told.

Yes, the 7206 threw a piston through the block. It's currently being repaired in Altoona.

It's either going to Colver or Seward.

You never go sideways on a slope with a Bulldozer!! If you did, you would know what downhill sking with a 45 ton pack on your back would be like!!! Clean shorts would be in order!!! LOL!!
I learned that the hard way!!
