NC-VA RR, Roxobel, NC, November 2010
Author: NCDave

This is in northeastern NC, in Bertie County. November 16, 2010 was a cloudy day when NC-VA 3813 lead the outbound train through Roxobel, enroute to Boykins, VA with a load of heavy steel as the railroader in the white vehicle inspects the rollby. No. 4000 is in the lead on a return trip through the same crossing, November 2, 2010. Note peanut trailers on the right.

Empty flats with loaded scrap cars are bound for the NUCOR steel plant at Tunis in Hertford County, NC.

Very interesting. That 4167 looks to be an old SCL MATE that had an EMD dynamic brake added. Cool--it's probably the only MATE still active.

This is a recent shot from January, 2012, which shows the typical power on this line. No. 4000 is trailing here with 3813 as leader ahead of the calf.

Dave,

Glad to see someone else shooting the NCVA. I grew up in Tidewater and often shot NCVA from Boykins to Ahoskie. Glad to see someone else doing it as well.

Nice work

Grady, thanks for the good words. I have followed your posts and gathered that you had some roots in this general area. I will never be much of a photographer, but have always enjoyed the railroading around here. I will post some more NC-VA if there is some interest here.
David
