There's still service listed out of NYCT to Columbus. Is it just ESL and KC that are being discontinued out of NYCT?

Yes I jumped the gun, just discontinuing KC and STL trains.

The Little Ferry (NJ) terminal is a sprawling facility, partly a former New York Susquehanna & Western yard, and partly the old New York Central Bellemans Ridgecrest auto terminal. It's located under the NJ Turnpike along the River Line, at about milepost 5.

The NYCT Howland Hook terminal on Staten Island uses the AK bridge which connects to the main land, and more importantly to Oak Island yard. That line used to connect (still connects?) to the Lehigh Valley and Jersey Central at Aldene in Cranford NJ. Conrail and the NYNJ Port Authority spent a lot of money to build a connection to the Chemical Coast line to allow access to Oak Island.

Looks to me like there's going to be a KC & ESL train(s) going to North Baltimore for aggregation/classification as the following paragraph suggests.
New and Improved Kansas City (local) and East St. Louis (local) Service to be Offered:
New international local service will be introduced for Kansas City and East St. Louis to Baltimore, and to/from Philadelphia. Improved service frequency and/or transit time will be introduced for Kansas City and East St. Louis from Baltimore, and to/from Portsmouth APMT and Portsmouth NIT.

Not sure if that's an existing train that will have it's orgin/termination changed to North Baltimore or if they'll be served by new trains though.

Much of the area around Oak Island and Port Newark has been reconfigured over the past several years, with improvements that avoid having to use Oak Island directly. Most of the NYCT container traffic goes to Pt. Newark, where it is handed off to its respective trains.

I find it odd that CSX would eliminate the two blocks and move them to another terminal. NS may very well pick up some of that traffic.

Whichever the case, this sounds like the first trains to use the new Galatea connection to run between North Baltimore and St. Louis. And whose railroad will be used to get to Kansas City?

Thanks for that information.

Would it be correct to say that Norfolk Southern seems to be originating many NJ trains out of Croxton and Oak Island, while CSX seems to be starting from South Kearny? Based on my occasional travels through the area, it seems like 69th street in North Bergen is much less busy in recent months.

I see CSX reference to Baltimore...which I take to mean Baltimore, Maryland. I don't see any reference to North Baltimore, Ohio.

NS only originates 2 trains out of Oak Island on most days, 19G and 11J. All of the intermodal traffic comes out of Croxton (3 trains ... 211, 21M, 23Z) or Erail (4 trains ... 25Z, 25V, 25R, and 23M). Of the 4 Erail trains, two originate there, but the cars come out of Pt. Newark's Maher Terminal (25V and 23M) or are blocks out of NYCT.

CSX reconfigured their operations a while back, making South Kearny almost exclusively COFC, while North Bergen became mostly TOFC (UPS) traffic. They also originate a couple of trains per day out of Pt. Newark.

CSX orginates Q167 with blocks from EMZT and PNCT, Q163 from PNCT and NYCT, Q159 from EMZT. Also as needed Q169 from EMZT.

As mentioned in my other post, I'd suspect that the traffic from 'out west' (KC & ESL) would be carried to North Baltimore on a single train, and classified at North Baltimore to be placed on the existing trains that go to Philly, Baltimore & Portsmouth. Tominde Wrote:

There's a reference to "Northwest Ohio" which is the North Baltimore terminal.
