Date: 03/20/01 20:17 RE: NS 4610 Author: HEAVYDUTY What is the average lifespan of a loco paint job?,we N&W fans never got a commemorative paintjob for our 100th anniversary---go figure!
Gary Price Date: 03/20/01 20:22 RE: NS 4610 Author: k8dti I guess at the time that two steam locomotives was enough for the N&W people. 4610 did get a touch up job recently.
Date: 03/20/01 20:51 RE: NS 4610 Author: CP_Paint Wasn't the paint job for 4610 paid for by a hostorical society for their convention? Then NS decided not to paint it? Tere was some discussion on another list about this not too long ago, but I can't seem to remember. :)
The solution: Raise about 15k and have it painted! J.Gontero Date: 03/21/01 03:52 RE: NS 4610 Author: nsrayman NS usually repaints their units every 6 years , the 4610 was painted in Apr of 1994 so it is subject to being reapinted anytime , it is such a beautiful locomotive , painting her black again would be a crime ! Date: 03/21/01 04:00 RE: NS 4610 Author: PeachFuzz That's right. The green paint is on borrowed time. It was supposed to only last one year! There was such a positive reaction it was left that way.
Get your pics now. Date: 03/21/01 07:48 RE: NS 4610 Author: Rathole I really don't think it will return to black. It's still requested by various groups to make appearances from time to time, such as at Danville, KY each Christmas for the Santa yard train. And the green paint has held up very well.
Date: 03/21/01 16:21 location Author: halfmoonharold Unit is still bouncing back and forth in southern Indiana on 70J/71J turn jobs, Oakland City vicinity.
Date: 03/21/01 19:27 RE: NS 4610 Author: ioryhogger There is a N&W 100th Anniversary engine in the works due out this summer. Tuscan red and maroon with silver trucks and on the nose a big 100. I can't wait.
Date: 03/23/01 03:41 RE: NS 4610 Author: GreenRanger In 1992 The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers- Southern Railway General Committee requested that a locomotive be painted in SR sylan green and imitation aluminum for the 1994 centennial and to commemorate the joint quality committees established by the BLE and NS. The BLE supplied the painting diagram featuring the unique green lowerbody. The 4610 was selected to be painted because of its pristine body, catchy number, model availability and ease of painting.
