Eastern Railroad Discussion > Class 1 Locomotive Shops

So I've been wondering this for a while now...what are all the Class 1's major locomotive repair shops? I know all of NS's, but as for the rest of the rest of the Class 1's I have no idea. The ones I list below are the ones that I know of from my railroading days...oh and running repair shops are shops that do FRA maintanence and light to medium repairs...and Back Shops are shops that do overhauls, major wreck, and rebuilds...Please correct if I'm wrong...

CP Running Repairs and Overhauls

Alyth, Calgary, AB
Weston, Winnipeg, MB
St. Paul, MN

CP had been farming out heavy overhauls to CAD Rail in Montreal, and Progress Rail in Mayfield, KY, but Hunter Harrison ended this after all locomotives currently out are returned. Wreck repairs have been going to Relco at Albia, IA.

I believe Avon does running repairs for CSX, as well.

BNSF - Northtown Diesel Shop, Minneapolis, MN

KCS - Shreveport, La is the major hub for them for everything.

They also have shops in Kansas City, but not sure what all is done. Also GE has shops as well in Kansas City fairly close if not next to KCS yard.

I hadn't heard that about CP. So the GP9 and SD40-2 Eco conversion programs are being cancelled?

Nothing known about the ECO Remans, but the CAD Rail SD60 overhauls, and the Progress Rail GP38-2 overhauls are coming back in-house.
