Eastern Railroad Discussion > Expressway SuccessDate: 04/10/01 11:08 Expressway Success Author: rabbiteer From the Trains April 9th news wire:
"Canadian Pacific gets big customer for Expressway service Canadian Pacifics Expressway intermodal service got a major boost today when retailer Hudsons Bay Co. announced it would gobble up 25 percent of the Expressways capacity between Montreal and Toronto." That's 60 trailers per day off the highway and onto the rail thanks to CP/Expressway. "CP built an Expressway terminal near Hudson Bay's eastern distribution center at Scarborough, Ontario, after the retailer approached the railway for help in reducing the number of trailers it hauls on Highway 401, the busiest route in Canada. The terminal opened in February." They firgured it out! Put the transfer facility close to the customers and use the more liberal union work rules now in place vis a vis the rules in place when the current "hub and spoke" intermodal systems were developed. Way to go CP! Full story on the newswire at www.trainsmag.com Date: 04/10/01 14:32 RE: Expressway Success Author: brantstn I hope CP can find more customers for the Toronto-Detroit Expressway as well. Two or four trailers each way isn't enough...
Scott Date: 04/10/01 15:35 RE: Expressway Success Author: duracell Well, if CP could finally negociate an agreement with Amtrak, perhaps the corridor will get extended to Chicago as well; this could bring the volumes up, Chicago is a fairly bigger market than Detroit!

So there is a reason to run, its paid for..........since it is scheduled, it runs, regardless.
