Tunnel modification for NGP

How does CSX modify tunnels that can't be daylighted for the National Gateway Project? Do they lower the right-of-way's elevation by several feet or what?

Point Of Rocks, and Catoctin undercut. Harpers Ferry, Randolph, Stuart, Graham, and Carothers are getting notched out to accommodate double stacks.

Also, the old ex-WM overhead bridge at North Branch is coming down.

Does anyone have any photos of their modified state? It sounds like their visual appearence will be drastically less photogenic.

Nothing from Harpers Ferry eastward has been touched. Also, as I recall, only two of the four tunnels on the Magnolia Cutoff have been touched. The WM Bridge was still there as of a few weeks ago, though contractors were hauling in dirt to build a new storage track to replace the function of the WM bridge.

In short, there are few photos of notched/altered tunnels because very little has been done overall.

Point of Rocks, lowered? It is already flood prone. Whatever, that just means more reroutes via NS across the former PRR main in extreme weather and with all of this global warming NS stands to make big bucks!
