Eastern Railroad Discussion > Something different...U.S. built rail cars for exportDate: 11/22/12 06:52 Something different...U.S. built rail cars for export Author: fqo63 Several dozen U.S. built hoppers wait to be loaded aboard the freighter 'Industrial Faith' at the Port of Pensacola, Florida. They are standard gauge, so probably bound for Venezuela or Columbia which are mostly standard gauge.
Does anyone on TO know where they are going? Date: 11/22/12 08:47 Re: Something different...U.S. built rail cars for expo Author: BaltoJoey Well, I just discovered that AARX is a reporting mark for equipment in transit.

If you look closely, you can see them. I looked at some of my other photos and found the answer.
#1 Before loading. Note..nothing around the axles. #2, #3 During loading. Note yellow straps around the axles. Please excuse the noise and blur. These were greatly enlarged. ------------------------------------------------------- > How many cars are in this order to be expo? I don't know the total, but there were a LOT of cars stored in the port awaiting loading. There was an additional long string of cars in the Pensacola CXS yard. Date: 11/23/12 07:57 Re: Something different...U.S. built rail cars for expo Author: fqo63 The rest of the story:
There are 150 km of 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in) standard gauge connecting Cerrejón coal mines to maritime port of Puerto Bolivar at Bahia de Portete. The Cerrejon mine is one of the largest open pit coal mines in the world. Date: 11/23/12 13:42 Re: Something different...U.S. built rail cars for expo Author: CShaveRR These cars have a gross rail load of 315,000 pounds. Must be good track down there, as a lot of U.S. main lines still can't support cars like this.
Edit: there are 175 cars in this group, numbers 101000-101174. Edit again: a total of 300 cars, 101000-101174 and 110875-110999. Carl Shaver Lombard, IL Edited 2 time(s). Colombia has a pretty decent economic growth rate. Economists estimate it to be in the 6% range. And, they're producing a lot of jobs in their industrial and mining sectors. |
