Mt. Vernon, OH branch
Author: MEKoch

Coming north from Newark, OH is the old B&O line to Mt. Vernon, about 25 miles. The line originally ran to Mansfield, Willard, etc. A 1957 Railway Guide has passenger service from Wheeling to Willard on this line, connecting to Chicago trains in Willard.

A recently repainted G&W (Ohio Central) unit tows four cars south at St. Louisville, OH on 11-26-12.

What is the origins of this unit?

That's a GenSet switcher. I don't know what it was rebuilt from, but in this incarnation, that's got to be its original paint job.

Nice pictures of the lesser shown portion of the OHCR.
I believe this line originally started in Zanesville and went up through Mansfield, Willard, and Sandusky. It may have gone farther south than Zanesville though.

An SW1200RS core was used for this Brookville unit.

At Zanesville, the B&O had two routes the line to Wheeling and the line to Parkersburg

The OC line thru Mt. Vernon is part of the former B&O Lake Erie Sub from Newark to Sandusky via Mansfield and Willard.

It was not rebuilt from an SW1200RS. It was rebuilt from an SW900. It was stripped down to the frame with just the cab left intact. In the rebuild process they added the jut-out number boards on the cab making it look like an ex SW1200RS. Its old number was 922 but not sure of its heritage.
