Eastern Railroad Discussion > New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westboundDate: 12/20/12 15:12 New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westbound Author: JET NS 145 passing westbound through Clymers, IN at lunch time today. I believe there were 10 new CITIRAIL units in tow.

Not fond of the nose color scheme, but other than that looks great. Date: 12/20/12 15:24 Re: New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westbound Author: shadetree Anybody know where these units are going to work?
Eng.Shadetree Date: 12/20/12 16:03 Re: New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westbound Author: CCMF These will be used by GE as warranty protection units, i.e. to be provided while locomotives are shopped.
I have no detailed info, but UP's entire last order of ES44AC's was (and maybe still is) parked with warranty issues. They could be headed that way. Bill Miller Galt, ON Date: 12/20/12 18:08 Re: New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westbound Author: imrl I'm wondering how they are set up. Are they equipped with any specific railroads cab signals. They don't yet appear to have the PTC antennas yet but it looks like the bases where the NS and BNSF style antennas are mounted. Nice pictures! Thanks for sharing!
Date: 12/20/12 18:49 Re: New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westbound Author: atsf616 Do dead-in-tow locomotive movements require any typical operating restrictions -- speed, maximum number of allowable units, consist placement, etc?
Date: 12/20/12 19:10 Re: New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westbound Author: highgreengraphics Cool photo - What is the number series of these units, do they start at 1200 or 1201? And are there supposed to be just ten, or are more coming? === === = === JLH

Merry Christmas to you and thanks for posting the photos. Date: 12/21/12 04:35 Re: New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westbound Author: NWRailfan Yes and the same people who also use the CEFX reporting mark
Date: 12/21/12 06:35 Re: New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westbound Author: schmo That face (i.e., front of the loco) reminds me of a walrus with all those whiskers. However, on the plus side, a motorist should have no problem spotting one of these coming at them at a grade crossing. At any rate, this new color scheme adds some more variety to the North American railroad scene, something we can use more of.

just a FYI these units are not owned by CIT the longtime locomotive leasing company that uses CEFX and CITX reporting marks. This is a totally different company 100% confirmed by a friend at CIT. Mark Mautner Date: 12/21/12 12:14 Re: New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westbound Author: NorfolkSouthern_37 CREX is Citicorp Railmark. The same guys that have all those ex-UP Dash 8s roaming around.

But they were spun off inthe late 90' or early 2K's Date: 12/21/12 19:32 Re: New CITIRAIL ES44AC units westbound Author: CCMF CREX ES44AC's are actually 1201-1215.
CREX C40-8's are currently moving to CN shops and becoming CN 2000-2041 (CREX 9023-9064 should be in order). There they join the rest of the original CNW C40-8 fleet which are CN 2100-2134.
