i sure hope they threw that split point derail before they went over it ... she's awfully close to a reversed switch she can't see ...

Looks like a spring derail, ok one direction but obviously not the other!

ahhh i believe you are correct JB ... i had to zoom the page to notice the spring mechanism next to the hand throw

Interesting that in photo 3 at the new pit stop in Bluefield, that the sand reservoir in the center of the photo shares most of the same shape characteristics as the nearby coal tower there, just in miniaturized form. === === = === JLH

I don't want to seem dense but why would the engineer being a woman merit being the first line in this thread? Is she NS's first female engineer? Is this class of locomotive esp. difficult for women to operate?

As to the woman issue... While it may not be the first woman engineer, it is still very rare, and hence, of interest to many.
