Eastern Railroad Discussion > Old Fort Loops tunnels - and track speeds

I've been looking through old threads for photos of the Old Fort Loops. Has anyone poked around the three tunnels at Point Lookout, particularly the northern two? There's a Forest Service road that goes over the northernmost one, and the middle (short) one is right by the bike trail / old road.

Also, I have an old timetable that specifies a 15mph speed limit downhill, 20mph uphill. Has that changed?

I was there just last week. The forest road was (may be old 70)gated and you could not drive it. If you had a bike or were willing to hike in, I don't think you would have any issues, but it would be quite a hike.

Thanks. Old 70 is now a paved bike path, and there are barriers at each end.

Those track speeds are still good, as of the 2008 timetable, and my first hand experience living here locally. It usually takes eastbounds about an hour from Ridgecrest to Old Fort, and westbounds just about 45 minutes. And yes, Old 70 is gated, but you can hike down to the three tunnels you mentioned.....will be some great shots of 630...
