Reading Heritage Unit at Patterson Creek Road
Author: jmbreitigan

After hearing that today was going to be a nice day, I headed down to check out the action on the Manor Branch that heads out of Waynesburg, PA. to the Bailey mine. I decided to go down to a spot on Patterson road where the Manor Branch crosses over Patterson road. N22 was headed out of the Bailey mine so I did not have long to wait. My last meeting with the Reading unit was under some cloudy weather but today was my lucky day.

1. N22 with NS #8061 on point heads northbound over Patterson road with a consist of 130 cars from the Bailey mine. First time for me to see three of these units up front. I have seen three SD-60's. Maybe they switched out one of the Bailey helpers. Sorry about chopping some of the nose of the last unit. The sunny weather had me all worked up : )

2. The Reading unit brings up the rear of N22.

3. After cutting off N22 at MP 8 Bailey helpers NS #1067 & #8017 head back to the mine.

This makes three heritage units I have documented as Bailey helpers. Monongahela, Central of Georgia & Reading. Check out ( http://www.pbase.com/jmbreitigan/image/149126598 ) to see larger images.

Nice photos John, like the bridge shots and catching Heritage trains in action.

Thank you Jim. If it means anything after the other two heritage units did a Bailey helper stint they left to roam elsewhere. So hopefully the Reading unit will go back east.

The Reading is among the best of the Heritage units.
