The most popular engine in America today
Author: erie833

...sure seemed to be the NS 1071, the CNJ heritage unit that was leading train 287. At times there were over 20 people at some spots. It was great to see a lot of younger fans out today too- the hobby needs them. I had to work today, but as soon as I marked off I headed for our Bridge 2, the former NKP bridge over the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland. Generally a morning spot, I went for the "busy" look of the train coming through the bridge with the Cleveland Indians stadium in the distance for this afternoon view. This train would go all NKP today, so it was off to Avon Lake for some more photos. Pulling past power off the Avon Lake coal train tied down on the wye and coming through the yard to start it's set off.

Pulling ahead to make a cut.
After a wait to enter the main this long train climbs out of the siding.

Great shots! I especially like the "busy shot" and that last one, too! It looks so tall. Today I looked it up and the SD70ACe is 15' 11" to the top of the cab!

I'd have been over there at Abbey Road if I hadn't been warned that there's a troublesome new fence on the bridge there....

From what I was told earlier today, there is a fence on the Abbey Road bridge, but there is a single hole in it you can shoot through, most likely the hole RAD used for his shot unless he brought a ladder.

FWIW, here's my shot of the same train taken about a minute and a half before RAD's from the other side of the Cuyahoga River valley. There were nine other people at this spot at the end of Rockefeller Road.

Yep, it's a tough one. Mornings will still be good but bring a tall stepladder for the afternoon photos. This was shot through a small "port" in the fence. Convenient, but limiting as far as the angle.
