Pictures from the CSX in Hamlet,NC area (10/26/13)

I decided to head down to the CSX on Saturday, October 26th for a change of scenery. The town was having their annual "Seaboard Festival" and the Amtrak exhibit train was brought in for the event. It was a perfect day with bright sunshine and high temps around 70.

Excellent stuff!. I always love to see shots from this area. I have a question......Did CSX realign the tracks going by the station or did they move the building away from the tracks? I remember seeing double trackage on both lines crossing the station. How many tracks were there? Thank you, great job, Charles

I think the answer is: it depends on when your frame of reference is. I've seen photos with two tracks for the Wilmington-Monroe line and three tracks for the Raleigh-Columbia line. But over the years, SAL and then SCL could have changed the configuration on several occasions.

They have moved the entire station over the years though. The spot that it sits at now after it was fully restored is "supposed" to be the "original" location where it was built.

Also, yes, the SAL 1114, along with the caboose, were both just recently repainted. The SAL 1114 was in a grey scheme for as long as I can remember, it had faded and was looking horrible.

And I am not really sure what all the silver boxes are along the tracks where the exhibit train is sitting. What I have always heard is that they were used to either refill the passenger coaches with water, or they were used to drain the coaches septic tanks. I know that inbetween every one of those boxes, there are high powered electrical outlets sticking out of the ground for use to "plug in" each individual coach for an extended period of time so they wouldn't lose power. I'm guessing the Seaboard used to swap power at Hamlet? Anyways, all of this trackside equipment is still in place after all of these years, and the town still has the original classic feel.
